Over 300,000 copies have been sold in the UK meaning that more copies have been shifted in its first 36 hours of release than any other adult hardback novel.

And it seems that The Lost Symbol is reaching new hights across the globe.

“We are seeing historic, record-breaking sales across all types of our accounts in North America for The Lost Symbol,” said Sonny Mehta, editor in chief of US publisher Knopf Doubleday.

Similarly, Amazon.com reported very strong sales of the digital version of the book with spokesman Andrew Hardenere confirming that “the biggest surprise was that, despite sustained, strong physical book sales, yesterday [Tuesday] we saw the Kindle edition outsell hardcover editions on the book’s release day.

This was reflected by a spokesman for Sony who claimed that The Lost Symbol set a single day record for ebook sales, outselling competitors by more than ten times on Tuesday.

The Lost Symbol is the follow up to the succesful novel The Da Vinci Code which was published in 2003 and has gone on to sell over 81 million copies worldwide. The latest release is set in Washington DC and again features the Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon who this time has to come to grips with the secret world of the Freemasons.

Waterstones are currently offering a 20% discount on the digital version of the book meaning that it can be purchased for just £9.49. For more information or to download your copy, simply visit www.waterstones.com.

From today, Waterstones are accepting pre-orders for both the Sony Touch and the Sony Pocket readers and are promising that customers will receive the new products a week before they become available from other merchants.

The Sony Touch is an updated version of the earlier PRS-505 model and is available in either black or silver. It now comes supplied with a stylus which can be used on the brand new touch screen. The stylus allows users to highlight and copy text to either your PC or Mac.

Memory has also been upgraded with a chunky 512MB coming as standard – meaning that users can immediately store in the region of 350 books on their reader without the need to purchase additional memory sticks

As you might expect, the Pocket Edition is designed as a portable alternative to its bigger brother. As with the Sony touch, the reader comes in a choice of two colours (either pink or silver) and currently weighs in at just 220 grams making it the lightest reader currently on the market.

Readers will be pleased to know that both models feature the eInk display which made the original Sony Reader so popular. The eInk technology allows for books to be read in the brightest of sunlight an the backlit screen means that users can still continue to read even in the pitch black.

Waterstones are offering a special deal on both products whereby all those who buy one of the new readers will also be given a free download of The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown when it is published in eBook format later on in the year.
